Biotipac is a startup company developing smart bio-preservation and bio-control solutions for food shelf-life extension and crop protection.

The Need

Fresh fruits and vegetables loss due to rots at the retail level in the US alone, is estimated at $8.6B. Retailers experience the highest costs of loss due to microbial deterioration, although spoilage begins early after harvesting, and accelerates with improper handling. 

There is an urgent need to find natural solutions for shelf life extension of fresh produce, with the growing restrictions on pathogens and chemical levels, and increased demand from consumers for organic food at fair prices.

Most existing solutions are focusing on physiological protection, such as water loss or discoloration, while microbial protection is limited. Other solutions are limited in efficacy, expensive, or impose safety risks to the consumer or environment.

Our solution

Our solution is completely different in its mechanism of action. Instead of killing bacteria we manipulate their growth by providing good bacteria preferred growth conditions.

The solution is 100% natural-based and extends shelf-life by up to 100%. 

Our solution triggers spontaneously the power of nature. The product itself is a form of a sachet or sticker containing a novel blend of nutrients, free of externally added microorganisms. It can be placed in a tray of fresh produce or be attached to the package. When activated, it naturally and selectively stimulates the growth of human friendly bacteria. These spread outside of the sachet at the expense of undesired microorganisms, while nutrient blend remains physically separated.

‘Biotipac’ can be used as a stand-alone device or in combination with other treatments for holistic protection.

'Biotipac' flourishes in moist conditions and it is effective in room temperature. It provides the best solution for delicate fruits, creating a “protective umbrella” for them along the supply-chain, and reducing loss due to temperature fluctuation, while saving energy costs.
