Pigmentum has developed a proprietary molecular technology platform for hyper expression of several compounds (Anthocyanins, terpenes, proteins and more) in a variety of plants (Tobacco, lettuce) fitting hydroponic and vertical growing.

Following a $1M seed funding by FreshStart food-tech Incubator, Pigmentum has achieved a successful field pilot showing 15x times higher concentration compared to existing sources.

Tal Lutzky Co-founder and CEO at Pigmentum we developed innovative molecular genetic inducible platform allowing hyperexpression of desired natural compounds in plants, resulting with X15...

The technology enables external gene activation in plants via an induction of an external signal. This results in the specific chosen compound (e.g., pigments, flavors, proteins, and bioactive ingredients) entering a hyper expression cascade, allowing extra high yields and scales, on demand.

The inducible mechanism allows the plants to grow without any interruption in high growth rates, turning their resources to create the set metabolites only when the mechanism is activated, resulting in higher production scales and higher percentage of desired metabolites out of dry weight. Furthermore, Pigmentum’s mechanism enables the production of metabolites that otherwise cannot be produced in plants such as cytotoxic, volatile & unstable molecules.

Pigmentum was co-founded by Tal Lutzky, Amir Tiroler & Professor Alexander (Sasha) Vainstein, an expert in the field of genetic engineering in plants from the Robert H. Smith School of Agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Rehovot campus.
