It is expected that in the coming years the food and agriculture sectors will undergo a revolution. From growers and manufacturers to suppliers, processors, retailers, and consumers, the entire ecosystem in the world of agriculture and food is encountering a fundamental change. The agriculture, food and beverage industry face a long list of challenges arising from economic, social and climate change, in a wide range of areas. They are required to feed the world in more connected, safe, transparent, customized and sustainable ways. The demand for food is growing, and with it many constraints in the field of climate and nature, as well as consumer demands for healthy, quality and sustainable foods.

The world is dealing with hunger on the one hand, and obesity on the other.

Technologically, the ecosystem in the world of agriculture and food is undergoing a revolution and must adapt by developing products based on complex technologies that combine a wide variety of disciplines (BioConvergence), that stem from the worlds of pharma and biotechnology. This includes areas such as cell growth, alternative animal and plant proteins, and even tech. - computational biology, including the use of advanced tools such as: AI, ML, DL.

In terms of financing, there have been massive investments made in the field recently by large food companies, private investors, and funds in Israel and abroad. At the same time, the challenges facing projects that are at beginning stages, whether as young ventures or as an innovative project in a large and well-established food company, are many. Due to the risks that are involved with this sector, potential investors can be cautious when entering as partners in the early stages, creating a problematic "Death Valley" in the sector.

Understanding the inherently enormous potential in the field, as well as the complex challenges faced by companies, EY Israel has established a workforce to engage with the worlds of 'Agritech' and 'Foodtech'. This is an expert team that accompanies companies from the startup stage to the innovation model stages. During the startup stage by providing assistance in business strategy - product market fit, fundraising, connection to investment funds and strategic partners, etc. In the later stages by working with multinational companies and large Israeli companies interested in engaging in open innovation models: assistance in implementing innovation processes, establishing associations and R&D centers, working with startups including technological due diligence for the benefit of investing in startups, building incubators and innovation laboratories and more.
